What Exterior Prep Work Is Included?

FAQ

All furnishings, structures, and/or ground areas around the property where Steadfast Painting is working over/above will be covered and protected with drop clothes, carpet protectors, brown construction paper, and/or plastic.

  • Surfaces will be prepped based on the specific needs of each surface including using; washing, scraping, patching, and/or caulking.

  • All cracks or holes in surfaces will be patched/filled as needed.

  • Glossy surfaces will be cleaned, and/or scuff sanded to promote proper paint adhesion as needed. In some cases, a glossy surface will require the application of a bonding primer to ensure proper paint adhesion.

  • Scrape and sand rough/bare wood areas due to previous paint failures. “Shoulders” or minor ridges in the surface are a common result of areas where peeling paint has been removed; the composition of paint often prevents these ridges or “shoulders” from being sanded smooth and will be visible in certain lighting. Sanding is not to be performed on homes presumed to contain lead.

  • Caulk cracks/open seams along wood trim where wood intersects wood and/or where wood trim intersects siding substrates. Steadfast Painting Solutions Corp only caulks visible seams between two included surfaces unless requested otherwise by the customer. Caulking along a seam in which an adjacent substrate is not included may result in a limited ability for Steadfast Painting Solutions Corp to provide clean paint lines along those seams due to the composition and application process of caulking material. Caulking is not to be included nor recommended to be applied in areas such as; above brick lintels, under slats of siding, under gutters, and/or other areas that require air to access areas for purposes of ventilation.

  • All new/raw substrates will be primed as needed.

  • Apply a stain sealer to water stains and tannin wood stains.

  • Wood windows will be re-glazed as needed.

  • Work areas will be cleaned-up and vacuumed, and debris will be taken away.

  • Hardware to be removed and re-installed, only when specified in the proposal.

  • It is Steadfast Painting’s policy for their employees to reinspect and complete additional preparation procedures as needed before the second application of paint to ensure for best results. The level of preparation work and the results of said preparation are dependent upon the pre-existing conditions and age of the surfaces and will be influenced by the results of previous work completed.
