Painting in the Winter Months

Winter may not seem like the ideal time to paint your home. As temperatures drop and snow looms on the horizon, most think that interior painting and home improvement projects should be done in the spring or summer months. So, if painting your house is on your current to-do list, don’t stress. There are some benefits to painting the interior of your home in the winter months!

1.    Less Expensive Painting Quotes

During the winter months, exterior painting season is on hold until the following year. This opens professional painters’ schedules who service both interior and exterior leaving a higher demand for interior projects. During this time the rates for interior painting go down slightly to accommodate scheduling and many companies will run winter discounts. This is a great time to check off the interior painting you have on the do list! When spring rolls around you can focus on all your exterior maintenance needs.

2.    Paint Dries Quicker in the Winter Months

Though most interiors are temperature controlled the humidity is significantly lower in the winter months. High humidity makes paint dry slower so with the dip in humidity in the wintertime the paint dries much quicker. The interior of your home should ideally be above 60 degrees to ensure the surface temperature of the walls is warm enough. Some areas will likely need to be put on hold until temperatures warm up like the interior of unheated garages, sheds, exterior doors, or window sashes.

3.    Zero Voc and Low VOC Products

Most interior products used today have zero vocs or very low vocs. This means the smell of the paint is minimal and nontoxic, and the windows can stay shut during and after the project. There are circumstances where an oil base or shellac-based product may be needed, and we have air filtration systems to minimize the smell and exhaust any fumes out of the home.
