How Do I Know When It’s Time to Repaint?

FAQ

Some homeowners repaint their homes when they simply want to change the interior or exterior colors. This can be for redecorating purposes, personalizing the space, or if they are planning on selling the home and need to freshen it up and enhance curb appeal.

Typically, you should have your house maintained and painted every 5-10 years depending on the wear. Many factors determine the longevity of your paint.  Weather, quality of previous prep and paint used, and surface condition are the major factors. Other factors can affect your paint as well like if your house is not well insulated and lacks a good moisture barrier, then moisture from inside the house could cause peeling. If you have leaky gutters or are susceptible to ice dams in the winter can cause moisture issues inside and outside of your home. If your caulking is cracking and separating your paint job will suffer and can cause water to enter the home. Siding can shrink, crack, or begin to cup and nails can pop if the paint’s weather protection is beginning to fail.

It is important to inspect your home every spring to look for anything that is of concern. Once you know your home you can implement a maintenance schedule the same way as you would change the oil on your car – so that you can prevent any damage from starting in the first place.

During your estimate, we will inspect to determine what prep is required before any paint is applied to your home to ensure you get the longest-lasting paint job and ensure your home is protected against the weather.
